San Fran Street
These were all shot on Frankie, our hand held 4x5 monster! Walking around doing large format tilt/shift street photography in San Francisco is amazing! People just loved seeing that old beast hanging from my shoulder. The film is Fuji FP-3000B45 and it is expired 3 years so we rate it at ISO 12000! The negs are gritty for 4x5 but I like it! The grain is really beautiful on this film. I really can't wait to print these 20x24.

Hobo? Sundancer? Thingan?
I found these FP-3000B negatives filed away from our trip out to Salt Lake City back in 2009 for the Sundance Film Festival and just finally got around to scanning them after nearly 2 years! We were at a Band of Annuals show in a dimly lit dive bar near down town and this guy just stood out from the rest of the crowd. I mean look at that beard and the hand shaved into the back of his head... Ridiculous! I asked to take his picture and he agreed. But when I offered him the prints he refused explaining that he didn't believe in owning anything except for the clothes on his back! Interesting fellow. He was volunteering at Sundance and traveling around wherever the road would lead him. I sort of envied his freedom!

Sepulture in Oregon

This last fall our mother lost both of her parents. My Grandpa, who was the healthiest person I've known, passed from cancer (chemotherapy was the ultimate culprit). We all expected him to outlive my Grandma for years. I mean he ran his last marathon several times in his seventies. And I mean Ran! He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather; an athlete, a socialist, a veteran, and a former atheist. He was a man full of questions, and always seeking answers. Ultimately he decided it was foolish enough to keep telling God, "I won't believe in you!" and settled for obtaining his answers when he met God face to face. :-)
His loving wife stayed by his side in bed till the very end. She was a lifelong Catholic, and loved God and the Church with all her heart. My Grandma had been suffering from Diabetes for decades, and had undergone several open heart surgeries. So it wasn't but a few weeks, after moving up to Oregon to be with her great grandchildren, that she passed in her sleep as well.
We had a memorial service in California for my Grandpa, then his ashes went up to Oregon, ultimately to be laid to rest with my Grandma. They shared a beautiful life together all the way to their shared resting place. He was honored by the military at their grave after the beautiful catholic ceremony. My Mom received the flag and the family was at peace that day;reminiscing over the legacy the two had left behind.

On The Border

About a month ago I took a trip down to Ensenada, Mexico with some friends to help out with a building project for a ministry just outside the city. We did some serious work on a school/pastoral training center and had some seriously good street tacos in Ensenada! Being down there makes me appreciate what I have and how easily it could all be taken away. It also makes me sick of America and our comfort zones and need for our false security. Mexico is seriously suffering from the lack of tourism! Especially Baja! The border check was practically empty and the peso is worth less than it has been in over a decade. And all because we are afraid of drug lords and swine flue! Do you know how many American civilians have been hurt by the drug war in Mexico? Nilch! Nada! And swine flue? C'mom! It's the flue! And a mild one at that. Right now is a really great time to get a good deal on a vacation to Mexico and it's perfectly safe despite what the media has to say! Besides, they could really use you. So do a good deed and enjoy a little Mexico this Summer! And don't be trapped by false fear! Live life! And share it with others!
