Salty Roses

So this last weekend we all went on a little road trip to Salt Lake City for the Sundance Film Festival and to visit some friends. Well... after more than 26 hours of driving and dozens of rolls of film exposed I am exhausted and glad to be home with some really great memories from a truly amazing trip! I saw the Hoover Damn (twice), one of our favorite bands performed live at a dive bar in Salt Lake, there was that amazing claymation film called "Mary and Max" and some surprisingly cool art. On the way home from the festival we stopped in Prescott, AZ and did some really fun engagement photos for our friends Billy and Rachel. There is a lot to come but here is a sample Polaroid until we can get all the processing and scanning done. Come back soon!

Johnny didn't have money to pay his car payment, so he developed a scheme. He would raise pledges to either cut his beard or keep it. First pool to reach $200 won and had to pay up.

2008 - Some Highlights

2008 started out pretty good for me with New Years in New York. Aint Nothin' like it!
Also made it to Boston while Serra and I were out there.

Did some more traveling a little later in the year and ended up in D.C. to shoot a wedding. Here is what it looks like underground.
Here is Stephen Gallo from Virginia with his gangsta Groomsmen. He married our good friend Laura Stones this year and was a big part of why we were able to make it out to D.C.

Serra and I were surprised to find a herd of sheep this spring grazing in a field in Temecula.

Just a few months later I asked Serra if she would marry me. And you know what...
She said yes!
Now we live together...
Just kidding! We are neighbors. But we are both living in the barn that we will soon call "our" home. If God permits us to stay there that long.
This past year I've done a lot of digital photography for Revival with their Nikon D300. This was at a shoot for an article in their newsletter where Serra gave us all a glimps of how hard core she could be.

This is one of Serra and mine's favorite photos. And you know what. It was taken at Donnie Allen's wedding with Brian's iPhone! Goes to show you that it's not the camera that matters... It's the monkey behind it! :P

Had some really great times hanging out with Johnny Red and the Frisbee Fingers crew. Whether we were Throwing a disk or a bowling ball we were always using our fingers!

It has been amazing to watch little Ezekiel grow and develop this past year. I remember when he was afraid of me. This is him trying to steal my cool hat.

I love the colors that come out after the rain... Rich earthy browns and the subtle greens of new life... The yellow rays of new sunlight contrasted by the pale blue unsoiled sky. The rain washes everything away. If only it could wash away those pollutants in our lives that keep us from doing and being the children that God has made us to be. Those things that keep us from doing the things we really ought. The things we love and those things of virtue that generations past used to know... once. Before technologies and entertainment became God. Well I hope this Christmas we all find time to do the things we love and love the things we do. Bless others and share in God's gift of life creativity & life.

A Man With A Story (You Would Love To Hear)

These past two weeks I have had the pleasure of enjoying two great performances by two artists I sincerely love! One I love because their music has changed my perspective on so many things in this world since I discovered them and the other because he is a dear friend and wonderful person, not to mention exceptionally talented entertainer/musician. Haha! That reminds me of the Slashie Awards in the movie Zoolander! Anyways... My friend and musician Lee Koch recently played a show in Long Beach at the dive bar Que Sera (close Serra... but no cigar). It was good to see him and finally congratulate him on completing his first record. BTW - He will be having an album release show in his home town of Ventura on January 10th. So mark your calendars! Well anyways, while we were there my brother and I decided to take some photos and and if things work out Lee may in fact be using one or two of them in his album layout... if we're lucky! ;-) I know, obviously the goal is to get paid to have your work used in a design but nothing really beats being able to help out a friend and musician you believe in through collaboration. Especially on what should be their breakthrough album! I've heard it! It's fantastic!

The other band I saw this past Sunday was the little known Cincinnati sensation Over The Rhine. This is the best band I have ever heard live and by far my favorite band still gracing this world with their graceful presence. We are still working some photos we took at their show so I will tell you all about that when I post them.
